MP SANDAKAN DAP URGED GOVT TO STOP MAKING ARROGANT STATEMENT

BY: SHAIMON S JUMADI

SANDAKAN:- The Member of Parliament Sandakan Stephen Wong (picture)  urged the ruling Government to stop making arrogant statements and to behave in a civilised manner to work towards a better and more harmonious society.

Wong criticised the leaders of the ruling Government as arrogant and self-centered  in addressing the negative reports exposed by the Auditor General Report 2012

He criticised that the response given by the Inspector General of Police on the loss of 44 weapons, 29 police cars and 156 handcuffs and other numerous items amounting to a total of RM1.33 million, as being ridiculous and totally unacceptable.

Wong said    the IGP, as the Head of police force, has shown no sense of responsibility, accountability and had failed to acknowledge the wrong-doings of the police force. By claiming that the weapons might have “fallen into the sea”, he has made himself a laughing stock to the entire nation. Can the Rakyat and the world accept such a ridiculous response?

Wang added the Minister of Home Affairs responded to this issue by warning reporters not to raise further question about it. Is this the way for a Minister, who is responsible for the home affairs of the country, to discharge his duty for the country? His action of intimidating the reporters who were merely doing their jobs, is totally uncalled for and unacceptable .

“The Minister of Home Affairs and the IGP should address the public in a humble manner, by apologising to the Rakyat on the wrong-doings of the police force and by acknowledging the poor standards and weaknesses in the police force. The Rakyat would be forgiving if the police force is determined to repent their mistakes and to improve their standards. However, the IGP and the Minister of Home Affairs chose to deny their mistakes and weaknesses, and even arrogantly dismissed this matter in front of the public, This is utterly disappointin Wong told.

Wong   wishes to remind the Minister of Home Affairs and the IGP that they are all public servants who are here not to threaten or intimidate the nation but to serve the nation. They are not above the law, and are totally subject to legal actions for any of their negligence or misconduct in any form. They are subject to public scrutiny, and hence Wong urged them not to abuse the power given to them.
