KOTA KINABALU: PBS wants Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to urgently study a submitted proposal to review the Sabah Barisan Nasional power sharing practice.
Sabah BN has eight component partner parties including PBS. Aside from PBS the main players are Umno, Upko, LDP and PBRS. The others are smaller parties.
Drawing Musa’s attention, party president Joseph Pairin Kitingan said a committee was formed at the state level following complains from component BN partners of Umno’s alleged bulldozing demeanour.
He said the committee headed by State Speaker Salleh Said Keruak had come up with a proposal on power sharing.
“The committee has come up with a proposal on the power sharing but it was not followed up with action to implement it.
“This must be done quickly. We urge the Sabah BN top leadership to analyse the committee’s report and ensure that the power sharing formula is being practiced in its true spirit,” he said.
Pairin stressed that this was now a priority issue because it involved BN’s future.
“The political landscape had changed and people have more political choices.
“A fair power sharing formula would ensure that the interest of everyone in the BN family is looked into and that all component parties have a role in political and decision making process as well as to benefit from the interest of development.
“Component parties be they big or small should be equally allowed to hold administrative responsibilities at state, district and grassroot level,” he said.
He added such power sharing must also filter down to appointments for component party members such as chairmen in government linked companies, council members, native chiefs, village development and security committee chairmen and village heads.
Pairin, who is also state Infrastructure Development Minsiter was speaking at PBS’ 28th annual delegates conference at Hongkod Koisaan, Penampang here on Wednesday night...FMT
