KOTA KINABALU: The rebel faction in the
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is now attempting to make amendments to the
Party Constitution, which includes shortening the tenure of Supreme Council
members, from five years to three years.
The
faction’s chief Datuk Teo Chee Kang (photo) said a
committee of five members has been set up to study the amendments.
The
committee will then submit a report to the Supreme Council for endorsement
followed by passing the amendments in the party congress.
The
committee consists of Chin Shu Ying, Tsang Hieng Yee, Lim Young Peing, Yong Wui
Chung, and John Lee.
Teo
who was recently elected as the Party’s president in the party congress
organized by his faction said some provisions in the Party Constitution were no
longer suitable, such as the five-year tenure of Supreme Council members were
deemed too lengthy and should be reduced to three years.
In
a statement issued here today, Teo also disclosed that the party would now be
adopting a ‘New Team, New Beginning, New Outlook’ approach.
“LDP
would also recruit new members, especially young first time voters as they were
the future pillars of the country, and urged each division to actively do so,”
he added....B.I
