KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) is planning to set up an Islamic Education Fund to help rural Muslim students who excel in their studies.
USIA president Tun Sakaran Dandai (photo) said a committee would be set up to study the proposal which would focus on excellent students who were too poor to pursue their studies at institutions of higher learning.
“We have several supreme council members who will carry out the proposal so that it can be carried out in response to the government’s plan to transform education,” he told reporters at USIA’s 27th annual general meeting at USIA Tower’s Main Hall, Likas here last night.
He said through cooperation with other Islamic bodies and non-governmental organisations, USIA would collect contributions from corporate groups to help the needy students. BI
