Teo Chee Kang: Sabah welcomes China investors

KOTA KINABALU: The State government welcome Chinese investors to come and invest in Sabah.
This would also enhance the bilateral trade and achieved a win-win situation for both Sabah and China.
Expressing this was Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang during a courtesy call by some 30 Chinese delegates led by Professor Ai Xin Jue Luo Qi Yi of China’s Tsinghua University, today.
The purpose of the visit was to explore investment opportunities in Sabah.
During his briefing, Teo noted that tourists arrivals from China to Sabah have increased drastically in recent years.
He attributed this to the availability of direct flights to Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Teo also inform the delegation that Sabah’s economy is mainly based on agriculture sector, while oil palm constituted a majority of the plantation sector.
He added that the State Government was also focused on developing the tourism industry as well as the oil and gas sector.
Teo also highlighted that out of the 28 million population in Malaysia, more than 6 million or around 25 per cent are Chinese.
Malaysia has also done well in the preservation of Chinese education and cultures, and was regarded as the best in Chinese education, besides Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
Teo pointed out that the Chinese and Indians in Malaysia have an advantage in terms of conducting businesses with their counterparts in China and India.
He further noted that feedback gathered from his meeting with many commerce, cultural and education delegates in the past also revealed that they were no language and cultural barriers in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Ai said he would be organizing at least 10 trips for Chinese delegates to Sabah next year, which would involved students from the university BI
