Party's decision to quit or forge closer ties within the Pakatan framework depends on the central leadership, says a parliamentarian
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS MPs today downplayed the brewing crisis in Penang PAS with emphasis on closer relations within Pakatan Rakyat.
Yesterday, Penang PAS threatened to pull out of the Pakatan Rakyat government in Penang and review its partnership in the coalition.
Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin dismissed the calls to part ways with Pakatan as an unpopular move.
“It is their own unpopular and unofficial opinion. They should discuss it within the Pakatan Rakyat circles instead airing it to the media,” said Hanipa.
Bukit Gantang MP Idris Ahmad said that the decision to remain or to pull out of Pakatan Rakyat cannot be decided by Penang PAS.
“They should raise the issue in the muktamar. The decision to pull out can only be made by PAS’ central leadership,” he said.
Penang PAS deputy commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff said yesterday that the party wanted more space within Pakatan to speak out.
He also wanted PAS to have decision making powers for appointments into the Penang Islamic Religious Council (Maipp), local government and village development and security councils (JKKK).
He said that he attempted to rope in Pakatan partners, the DAP and PKR for discussion but it was futile.
Permatang Pasir state representative, Salleh Man is the sole PAS assemblyman in Penang. There are no PAS MP from Penang.fmt
