SANDAKAN: The 12th Sandakan Yacht Club/
Sandakan Festival Open Fishing Competition which is scheduled to be held this Aug 16, has now been postponed to a later date.
"We regret to inform that the Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) Committee
has decided to postpone the fishing competition until further notice,” SYC Commodore Daniel Liaw said during a press
conference here yesterday.
Daniel explained the SYC Committee made
the decision following consultations with the relevant authorities and taken
into serious consideration the current development in the east coast waters.
“The 12th SYC/ Sandakan Festival Open Fishing Competition which has been fixed on Aug 16 is now put off to a later date. We will make another announcement once
we have decided on a new date,” Daniel said.
Daniel apologized to all quarters for
any inconvenience caused and thanked the sponsors for continuing to support the
event, adding that, club members and participants could contact the SYC office
at 089 21 2518 for further enquiries.
Also present at the press conference
was SYC Rear Commodore cum organizing chairman James Leong.
The SYC/ Sandakan Festival Open Fishing
Competition which has been held annually with the collaboration of Sandakan
Municipal Council, is one of the biggest fishing events in the east coast of
Sabah.
The event which offers attractive cash prizes has attracted the
participation of anglers both from Sandakan and other parts of the State since
2001.
