DAP Questions Government’s sincerity In Solving Illegal Immigrant Woes in Sabah

By DAP Staff

PETALING JAYA:- DAP Sabah Deputy Chairman cum MP for Sandakan Stephen Wong Tien Fatt has taken the government to task for the continuously delay in making public the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on illegal immigrants in Sabah.

In a written reply in Parliament yesterday, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said there was no issue of delay as the report was already completed, and the government will soon decide the next course of action to be taken.

Wong questioned the delay in revealing the RCI findings. “It has been 6 months since the report was said to be completed, but we have not seen a shred of such reports,” Wong asked.

The five member panel which started in January last year saw 211 witnesses being called to the stand. Among those are former PM Mahathir Mohamad, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, and former Sabah Chief Ministers Harris Salleh, Joseph Pairin and Yong Teck Lee.

“Where is the government’s sincerity in solving the illegal immigrant issues in Sabah? It is the root cause of many issues like security and crime which are pertaining in Sabah, for instance, the abduction which happened at Semporna and Lahad Datu recently has shown the involvement of illegal immigrants. Therefore it is utterly important to disclose the resolution of illegal immigrants problem in Sabah ” stressed Wong in Parliament.

Wong further added that the RCI report is long awaited for Sabahan. But it seems the BN government never take it seriously. “Must the security of Sabahans be part of the political games of the BN government?” questioned Wong.

“At first, PM has promised that RCI will be completed before 13th general election. But now the elections are now over. There is no pressure to reveal the RCI findings. Will it be same like the VK Lingam RCI report that was swept under the carpet,” lamented the Sandakan MP.

He said that the people of Sabah are sick of such delays and added that the response of the government is testament of BN’s insincerity in solving the illegal immigrant issues. “Don’t play play with the sentiments and safety Sabahans!” chided Wong.

In last parliament sitting, Wong has questioned the minister on the release date of RCI report. Shahidan has replied that the report will be released on May. Why until now it has not been revealed? Is there any hidden agenda behind?

On the other hand, Wong who is DAP Sabah Deputy Chairman has mentioned that there are many cases show illegal immigrant has been given Identity Card. It is worrying as it would destroy the sovereignty in Sabah and Malaysia as a whole. It must be answered and resolved immediately!

He challenged the government to prove him wrong by tabling the original report in Parliament and let Parliament debate it. He also suggested that since it was of the interest of Sabahans, the Sabah State Assembly should be allowed to debate the findings of the RCI as well.
