Former workers of Bukit Jalil Estate submit a memorandum to the PM's office to remind Najib of his promise to resolve their housing problems.

PUTRAJAYA: After waiting for over 18 months for a favourable and amicable solution to their housing woes, former employees of the Bukit Jalil Estate today submitted a memorandum to the PM’s office and want answers from the Prime Minister.
The ex-Bukit Jalil Estate workers said that Najib has yet to fulfill his promise.
They gathered in front of the PM’s office and handed the memorandum to an officer from the PM’s office, G Vickneswaran to ‘remind’ the PM of his promise to them, made last year.
Bukit Jalil Estate committee treasurer K Balakrishnan said they hope Najib will fulfill their demands which are very reasonable.
He said that the PM’s spokesperson blamed a communication breakdown for the delay and has promised to revert back to them as soon as possible.
Balakhrishnan stated that they are worried as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have sent them a reminder notice telling them that they have to vacate their homes by next month.
“I hope the Prime Minister will intervene and solve this on going issue soon,” he said.
The Bukit Jalil Estate land was acquired by the government in the 1980s and the families residing on the land continued to work as rubber tappers as the government sold the land portion by portion to private developers.
Currently only 26 acres of the original 1,800 acres remains and the affected families have been fighting eviction notice since 2007, as most of them have refused the government’s offer of low cost flats as compensation.
The memorandum submitted to the PM’s department has listed three main demands:
A total of four acres from the 26 acres of land, to be alloted to the 41 ex-workers of Bukit Jalil Estate seeking housing assistance.
A terrace house, as replacement, to be built on the specified land allotment, and to make allowances for the Bukit Jalil Estate temple and school to remain.
