Selangor police also said that they had recorded statements from 10 individuals in their investigation into an statement made by pastor Lawrence Andrew.

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police has recorded a statement from an editor of The Malaysian Insider news portal over an article on a statement allegedly made by Catholic priest Father Lawrence Andrew related to the use of the word Allah.
Selangor police chief, Mohd Shukri Dahlan, who declined to reveal the name of the editor, said this was to ascertain whether the article was written based on the actual statement made by Lawrence, who is also the editor of Catholic weekly The Herald.
The report had alleged that Lawrence on Dec 27 had said that Catholic churches in Selangor would continue to use the word ‘Allah’ in their weekly assembly conducted in Bahasa Malaysia despite the reminder by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on the prohibition on the use of the word by non-Muslims.
“Police recorded the statement this morning to assist investigations and we might in two or three days time call up the priest to have his statement recorded,” he told reporters here yesterday.
He added that police expected to wrap up the investigations at the latest by next week following which the investigation papers would be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
Mohd Shukri, prior to this, had said police had recorded statements from 10 individuals in their investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shukri said police had yet to receive applications from any party to hold peacefulassemblies this weekend to protest the statement by Lawrence.
“I also urge all quarters to refrain from taking this route (hold demonstrations) because such issues are very sensitive and can disrupt harmony,” he said.
He added that the action of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) in raiding the premises of the Bible Society of Malaysia in Petaling Jaya on Thursday was done on their own accord as the matter was under their jurisdiction.
Earlier, Mohd Shukri had witnessed the handing over of duties by outgoing Shah Alam police chief ACP Zahedi Ayob to his successor ACP Azisman Alias.
