SANDAKAN:- The Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Najib Razak expressed in his 2014 New Year message that he "understand and sympathise with these concerns.

Hard-working people will feel the impact of rising costs. And when the media is full of red numbers and price rises, it can seem as though 2014 will bring pain without gain," On the other hand, he also announced 11 cost-cutting measures to slash public sector expenditure, one of which is the reduction by 10% of the entertainment allowance of minister and deputy ministers.

"However, it is no doubt that these words were meant only to calm the anger and frustation of the Rakyat. It is just an act of shedding crocodile tears, it is not sincere at all," MP Sandakan, Stephen Wong commented today.

"The 10% deduction of entertainment allowance of minister and deputy ministers merely comes up to RM 50,000 a month or RM 604,238 per year, what is this amount compared to with the misuse of public fund by BN Government?" Wong added.

"The BN Government simply did not take into account the plight of the people, they also did not make proper arrangements and control of price of the essential goods that people really need," Wong said.

"If the Prime Minister really understand and sympathise with the people's concern, then he should not let his cronies to monopolise the cost of essential goods such as rice, sugar and petrol, which blocks fair competition and free flow of prices." Wong pointed out.

"Why would Bernas, as a privately owned entity can monopolise the entire country's local and imported rice distribution? Other than that, why only 2 companies allowed to import, manufacture and sell Sugar, when all the subsidies for sugar have been removed by the government? Last but not least, even our petrol is monopolised!" Wong stressed on.

"Even worse, that he allowed TNB to increase the tariff electricity, while up to 31st August 2013, TNB has already gain RM 5.9 billion before tax profit! This is certainly not an act of taking care of the people!" Wong added on.

"If the Prime Minister really want to put the people first, the BN Government should stop the squandering of public funds and eliminate corruption, while open up the markets for fair competition and prevent monopolise of essential goods by cronies that aimed for high profit, in order to truly benefit the people." Wong concluded.
