The former assemblyman was barred from the party convention though had applied to be an observer
SHAH ALAM: Former Teratai assemblyman Janice Lee Ying Ha has taken the Selangor DAP to task as she was prevented from attending its 17th party convention today, as an observer.
The former state DAP publicity secretary toldreporters that she had applied to attend the party convention as an observer, about five weeks ago, but failed to receive any reply.
“It is simply ridiculous to stop me when reporters are allowed to enter the convention hall.
“I can understand if there is not enough space but the hall looked empty and there were so many empty seats,” she said, adding that the DAP also removed her name in the convention attendance lists.
Lee, who arrived at the convention hall about 9am, left at noon after she was denied entry.
Meanwhile, DAP legal bureau head Gobind Singh Deo, when commenting on the matter, confirmed that Lee had been expelled from the party and that the officers in the hall had exercised their rights accordingly, in not allowing her to enter the convention.
He said only DAP members, delegates and invited guests could attend the convention as observers.
“The CEC (central executive committee) had upheld the decision on Nov 18 that she is no longer a member of the party,” Gobind told reporters.
He said Lee had sought an interim injunction to maintain her membership in the party but the order was denied by the court last Wednesday.
The DAP convention also approved a motion in asking the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to revoke its directive that prohibited the party’s newly-elected CEC members from making any decision.
