Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar revealed that thus far they have no solid evidence that Syiah followers pose a security threat
PETALING JAYA: Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has urged all parties to refrain from making speculations on the number of Syiah adherents in Malaysia.
“Many parties are making speculations and allegations ever since Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for action against the Syiah,” he said when contacted.
He said this when asked to comment on allegations made by Fakhrul Azman Abu Bakar who is the international bureau chairman ofMalaysia International Islamic Cooperation Institution (Ikiam).
Yesterday Fakhrul claimed that many political leaders, professionals and heads of departments in thepublic and private sector are Syiah followers.
The claims were made following intimidation by Home Minister and Umno vice president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who called for the detention of Syiah followers.
Ahmad Zahid also accused PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu as being a follower of the Syiah sect.
Wan Junaidi who is also Santubong MP added that the Home Ministry had no evidence against followers of that sect.
“We are looking at it from a security perspective. We have no specific evidence yet to prove that they are a security threat. However they are under our radar,” he said.
On the contrary Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar was quoted four days ago saying that the Syiah adherents are posing a security threat.
“There is a security threat by allowing Syiah followers to develop and become bigger,” he said.
Keeping tab
Nevertheless, Wan Junaidi added that the Home Ministry is also keeping an eagle’s eye over leaders in politics, private and public sector as well as the academia to curb the spread of the Syiah sect.
Wan Junaidi added that there are evidences abroad that shows the rise of the Syiah sect would cause calamities.
“The Syiah adherents in Iraq have taken over the administration of Iraq after US invaded the country. We don’t want the followers of that sect to do the same here as well,” said Wan Junaidi.
