TAWAU: Kalabakan Wanita Umno division will hold a special election on Nov 16 to elect new committee members, said Kalabakan Umno division chief Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh.
He said the directive to hold the special election was made by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor via a letter recently.
The Kalabakan Umno division secretary will send notice of the meeting to all Wanita Umno branches soon.
Abdul Ghapur (photo) said the special election will elect 14 Wanita Umno division committee members.
“The elected committee members who resigned in protest are not allowed to seek re-election,” he said in a statement, here today.
He said the decision was to ensure that none of the elected committee members resign after the result was announced.
Last month, 14 Kalabakan Wanita Umno committee members resigned citing dissatisfaction with the election process as reason for the drastic action.
During the election, the incumbent Kalabakan Wanita Umno chief Datuk Hamisa Samat lost to her deputy Cahaya Sulaiman, the present Kalabakan Wanita Umno division chief.
