By Admin- Monday November 18,2013
KOTA KINABALU: The killing and kidnapped incident at the Pom Pom Island Resort and Spa off Semporna is a sad day for Sabah and tourism industry, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
He also described the death of a 57-year-old man as unnecessary loss of life.
Masidi (photo) said this when speaking at the Sabah Tourism Awards 2013 at a resort on Saturday night.
“On behalf State Government of Sabah and the tourism industry in general, we would like to offer our heartfelt condolence to the family of the decease,” offered Masidi.
“It is our fervent hope that the authorities will able to solve the problems in due course. Having said that, last March we also loss our men in the armed intrusion known as the Kampung Tandau incident,” he added.
“All these are challenges and surprises to the industry and we should be ready to race. And we should take the bull by its horn because it will be more tragic if they do nothing to make the industry growth,” called Masidi.
He said Sabah had gone through a lot of challenges in the past 20 years and despite that, the people of Sabah are always happy and united; and they always continue to prosper and make the industry a very vibrant and successful one.
Masidi also thanked the State Immigration Department for their support in taking up the foreign language courses sponsored by the Tourism Ministry and today their staff manning the counters can speak Mandarin and English.
